Developing social business partnerships to create sustainable value at the bottom of the pyramid

Authors: Fahian Huq; Ilma Nur Chowdhury; Stefan Gold

This research investigates how social business partnerships create sustainable value at the bottom of the pyramid (BoP) through collaboration with business and non-business actors. We specifically investigate how to select appropriate partners and outline the activities and resources needed to achieve performance targets, thus creating social (and environmental) value at the BoP. We approach this purpose by means of multiple case studies of social businesses initiated by one leading social business development enterprise (SBDE) in Bangladesh with its local partners (rural and urban entrepreneurs, NGOs and private firms). The study addresses the important research areas of sustainability and how business-to-business (B2B) services can aid value creation at the BoP. Data collection and analysis remains on-going.
