INTERPLAY BETWEEN BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND ABSORPTIVE CAPACITY IN PROJECT-BASED MANUFACTURING FIRMS

Authors: Marko Kohtamäki; Valeriia Boldosova

In order to stay competitive, project-based companies shift towards becoming agile learning organizations through the use of business intelligence in decision-making. By utilizing a comparative case study, the present study analyses 22 interviews and documentary data from three integrated solution providers. This paper contributes to the existing literature on projectbased organizations by 1) proposing a framework of business intelligence-driven absorptive capacity for continuous learning in project-based firms and 2) increasing our understanding about the interplay between absorptive capacity and business intelligence in project-based firms. For project-based companies, the resulting framework provides insights on how to utilize business intelligence for learning in projects.
