Authors: Annalisa Tunisini; Roberta Sebastiani

In recent times, servitization in companies has passed through a deep redefinition of the business and the search for new opportunities deriving from offering to customers value propositions based on process capabilities. As a typical boundary function, purchasing can play an efficient and effective role in connecting company’s intra and inter-organizational processes. In particular we stress the role of purchasing in connecting the company’s ability to relate and handling supplier relationships with the implementation of customer satisfaction strategies. This paper highlights the evolving and articulated role of purchasing as “mediator” between the company’ s customers and suppliers and therefore the paper shows the opportunities connected to the development of purchasing from a strategic function to a strategic business for companies.
