This study questions the validity of the operationalisations of Macneil’s norms which havebeen used in published studies. It compares the evaluation of two B2B exchanges usingfeatures that are fundamental to arguments which underpin Macneil’s concepts. Thediscrepancies between the results are statistically significant.
