Conceptual and Methodological Issues in Translation of a Business Questionnaire into Chinese

The problems and issues that impair questionnaire equivalence in cross-cultural research are discussed focusing mainly on linguistic issues. The English to Chinese translation and back-translation of a comprehensive questionnaire dealing with purchaser and supplier relationships in industrial markets is then used as a case study to highlight some of the issues arising including language structure, cultural setting and conceptual meaning.
