Antecedents of relationship functions in international industrial markets: A Cross Cultural Analysis

Authors: Ian Wilkinson; Louise Young

The functions of interfirm relations from a supplier’s perspective are described in terms of direct and indirect functions. Hypotheses are developed about the relationship between the the functions performed and four aspects of relations i.e. duration, percent of business, trust and relative power. The hypotheses are tested using the results of the IMP2 cross cultural study of interfirm relations carried out in Europe and Asia. Support for all but one of the hypotheses resyult but differences exist in terms of the role of different dimensions across cultures
