This paper focuses on the process of evolution of Russian strategic nets and their role in assisting Russian business to gain a competitive advantage. The study of competitiveness in long – standing market economies has shown that individual companies are likely to achieve international competitiveness if they belong to strong clusters in certain industries and countries. In Russia, clusters and other forms of inter firm networks are still evolving. Our examination of Russian inter firm networks suggests that they incorporate elements of both – clusters and strategic nets. Using thisframework of strategic nets and clusters, we are studying how Russian nets are formed and structured, how they work, how they are different from other countries, and finally, how the processof internationalization of the network has affected Russian networks. This study examines the facts and relationshipsinvolved and raises questions for future research rather than providing answers on emerging strategic nets in Russia. The paper contributes to the emergent theory of network management in the transition economy.
