The development of entrepreneurial firm network capability: a study of the Irish craft food sector

Authors: Helen McGrath; Thomas O’Toole

Focusing on the Irish craft food and drinks industry, the aim of this paper is to examine and gain a deeper understanding of the development of the network capability process. We define network capability emergence as the early phase development of the awareness, willingness and ability of the entrepreneurial firm to purposefully engage its network of business-to-business relationships to begin to gain access to resources held by other actors. Understanding network capability development provides a greater appreciation of the process through which entrepreneurial firms begin to realize and connect with their business-to-business networks and may generate new insights into the origins of capabilities for the entrepreneurial firm.
