Network Dynamics – An Historic Perspective. The Case Of The Leather Industry

This paper uses historical documents and correspondence to examinethe evolution of a single company and the surrounding network over aperiod of close to a century. The paper highlights the fact that manysupposedly ?modern? phenomena of networks are equally present inthe past. The case study in the paper also provides illustration of thenature of these phenomena, such as network position, networkingand the paradoxes that are endemic in networks. Finally, the paperconcludes with some lessons that may be drawn from the case forsuccessful management in a network.
