This paper is concerned with the philosophical underpinnings of the industrialnetwork approach. The approach is discussed in relation to different epistemologies,especially idealism, realism, and relativism. A variation of epistemologies areemployed be researchers within the approach, and these are discussed in relation towhat the focus on industrial networks tries to explicate. The three layers in thenetwork model activities, resources, and actors may require different treatment.
