PhD Scholarship - Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Innovation in Healthcare

BI Norwegian Business School offers a four year doctoral programme in business administration. The programme features six areas of specialization: Economics, Finance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Organization, Marketing, and Strategic Management.

Department of Innovation and Economic Organization seeks good candidates for a PhD scholarship related to a research project on medical technology development. The project ”From local breakthroughs in knowledge to integration in medical practice” (KINT) is run in collaboration with the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo and the Intervention Centre at Oslo University Hospital. The PhD candidate will become part of a strong cross-professional research group, and be part of BI’s doctoral program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Applicants may have a background in the social sciences or in management studies. Candidates should show strong academic achievements, good collaborative and communicative skills, and aim for an academic career. An important goal with the doctoral program in innovation is that finished candidates are hired by leading research institutions.

The KINT project will focus on the challenges related to development and implementation of new technology, as an outcome of the current organizing, regulations and institutional frameworks within healthcare. The KINT project will contribute to innovation through strengthening the implementation of a new high-tech medical procedure for heart surgery at the Intervention Centre (Oslo University Hospital). The methods developed in the KINT project may subsequently be used to strengthen the implementation of other similar high-tech medical procedures at other hospitals.

The PhD candidate will have good opportunities for collaborating with leading national and international researchers. The core group in the project will consist of an experienced researcher and two PhD candidates. The research will be done at the Intervention Centre, possibly also at other Scandinavian hospitals.

The research faculty at the Department of Innovation and Economic Organization at BI Norwegian Business School takes part in the international research community, doing research related to innovation, entrepreneurship, industrial economics and business history. The doctoral programme is an important element of the department’s research agenda and of BI’s vision to become one of the leading research business schools in Europe. The selected candidates can expect close supervision and will be working closely with the faculty and their place of work will be at the BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo where they will join a group of PhD candidates.
